Pirates for Parrots is a chapter book for children and young readers that will engage the imagination and expand vocabulary. This story chronicles the journey of a young parrot named Sunny who embarks on an adventure with pirates. Ultimately, the pirates learn the value of giving rather than taking. This book serves as a fundraising tool for Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary, a 501c3 non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, houses, and cares for parrots in eastern North Carolina.
CONTRIBUTIONS YOU MAKE ARE FULLY TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
Pirates for Parrots is a community of pirate enthusiasts, impersonators, living historians, and reenactors who support and serve Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary by promoting and/or participating in fundraising, educational, and awareness events that benefit the sanctuary.
Pirates for Parrots is not a crew, krewe, or club, and any pirate is welcome to participate by lending a hand at events or by promoting events and/or the sanctuary via social media if not in the immediate area.
The pirates who make up Pirates for Parrots attend events Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary participates in such as festivals and expos, and they also produce their own family friendly fundraising events which are open to the public. Each winter they put on a benefit that includes entertainment and a silent auction. Each spring they produce Pirates Invade Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary, a small scale pirate festival, at the sanctuary itself.
One of our fundraising tools is a children’s story series, “Pirates for Parrots Saga” written by Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary FundRaising Coordinator Sophia Cancelli, who is also the director of Pirates for Parrots.
Sophia is available for book readings and signings. We can also mount our interactive theatrical version of the first two books in the series, “Parrots of the Cape Fear and Curse of the Sea Witch'', at festivals, libraries, museums, etc. Our stage show is suitable for children, contains an educational component, and also serves as a fundraising tool.
Please find us on Facebook and join our public group, Pirates for Parrots North Carolina. For additional information or to let us know that you would like to participate in one of our events, please email Sophia Cancelli at sophiascurro@gmail.com.
When visiting St, Augustine, Florida, stop by The Pirate Store and pick up copies of chapter books for young readers that serve as fundraising tools for the Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary. All three stories feature sanctuary residents as characters and are also available in paperback on Amazon.
The Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary saga as a trilogy is available on Amazon with 100% of sales revenue coming directly to the sanctuary to help feed our residents. The purchase of one or all of these chapter books for young readers is guaranteed to expand vocabulary since each book contains a glossary, and money from sales goes into our operational budget so that we can purchase healthy food for our residents. The three titles are Pirates for Parrots, Mermaids and Macaws, and Feathers on Fair Winds.
